TEHRAN -- London’s Austin/Desmond Fine Art gallery will be playing host to an exhibition of ceramics and sculptures by Iranian artist Parviz Tanavoli, which will open on September 21.
Over 35 works will be put on display in the showcase, entitled “Poet in Love”, the title of one of Tanavoli’s works. It will run until October 29.
On the sidelines of the exhibit, Tanavoli is scheduled to attend a panel discussion at the British Museum on September 22, according to an announcement by an organizer of the exhibition on the Iran Heritage Foundation’s website.
Art critic David Galloway, Tate Gallery curator Jessica Morgan and Department of the Middle East curator at the British Museum Venetia Porter will participate in the panel.
The exhibit has been co-organized by Austin/Desmond Fine Art, the British Museum and the Iran Heritage Foundation.
Tanavoli, 74, mostly is famous for his series of works entitled “Heech” depicting the Persian word “heech” (nil). His “Heech in the Cage” is on display at the British Museum.
He was a founding member of Saqqakhaneh, an artistic movement that began in Iran during the 1960s. This movement sought to integrate popular symbols of Shia Muslim culture in art.
Lovers in the Persian literature, locks, walls, cages and the cypress tree are main themes of his collections of works.
Tanavoli is also author of “Kohl Box”, “Talisman, Iran’s Traditional Graphic Art” (also known as “Talisman and the Occult Arts”), “The Tacheh of Chaharmahal”, “Rustic and Tribal Weaves from Varamin”, “The Sofreh of Kamo”, “Riding in Splendor: Horse and Camel”, “Trappings from Tribal Iran”, “Locks from Iran”, “Ceramics” and several other publications.
